Scientific Name: Achyranthes bidentata

Hindi Name: चिरचिटा, Chirchita

Traditional Uses and Process of Use:

1. White Variety:

Properties: Bitter, pungent, heating, laxative, stomachic.

Indications: Itching, pain in the abdomen, ascites, dyspepsia, dysentery.

Specific Uses:

Seeds are beneficial in piles.

Alleviates abdominal discomfort and itching.

Relieves symptoms of dyspepsia and dysentery.

2. Red Variety:

Properties: Pungent, cooling, emetic, constipating, alexipharmic.

Indications: Colic.

Specific Uses:

Dried plant is administered in colic.

Exhibits cooling properties.

Acts as an emetic and alexipharmic.

3. Roots:

Uses: Sore throat, hypertension, amenorrhea, retention of placenta, carbuncles, traumatic injury, asthenia of liver and kidney, tiredness in the lower part of the body and legs, rheumatic pain.
