यो लता जातिको वनौषधि झ्याङ हुन्छ । यसको प्राप्तिस्थान ४-६ हजार फिट उचाइमा पाइन्छ । पुरानो लहराको जड एक अङ्गुलको हुन्छ । पत्ता आमने-सामने ३-५ अङ्गुल लामो र एक दुई अङ्गुल चौडा चुच्चो, फूल जामुनको समान रङ गुलाबी, फल चिल्लो ५ रेखालेयुक्त एक बीज हुन्छ । यसको खतरा गन्ध आउँछ। यसलाई शरदऋतुमा जरा र पत्रको सङ्कलन गर्नुपर्छ । यो तिक्तरस, उष्ण र कफवातशामक हुन्छ । आमवात, वातरक्त तथा सन्धिविकारमा बाह्य लेप र आभ्यान्तर प्रयोग लाभदायक मानिन्छ । यसले स्नायुतन्तु नसावातमा र सुन्निएकोमा लाभ पुयाउँछ । मात्रा : यसको स्वरस १-२ तोला, चूर्ण ३-५ ग्राम २-३ पटक, अर्क : १०-१५ ग्राम ।

गन्धप्रसारिणी एक प्रकारको लहरा (लता) जातिको वनस्पति हो। वैज्ञानिक भाषामा यसलाई Paederia foetida भनिन्छ। आयुर्वेदमा यसलाई 'वातघ्नी' अर्थात् वायु रोगलाई नष्ट गर्ने औषधिको रूपमा उच्च स्थान दिइएको छ। यो बिरुवा विशेषगरी आफ्नो कडा गन्धका लागि चिनिए पनि यसमा लुकेका औषधीय गुणहरू अमूल्य छन्। यो लहरा निकै बलियो हुन्छ र अन्य रुख वा झ्याङहरूमा बेरिएर फैलिन्छ।

नेपालको भौगोलिक बनावट अनुसार यो बिरुवा समुद्री सतहबाट लगभग ४,००० देखि ६,००० फिटसम्मको उचाइमा सहजै पाइन्छ। नेपालका पहाडी र भित्री मधेसका ओसिलो स्थान, वनजङ्गल र कान्लाहरूमा यो प्रशस्त मात्रामा पाइन्छ। नेपाल बाहेक यो भारत, भुटान, बंगलादेश, र दक्षिण-पूर्वी एसियाका देशहरू जस्तै थाइल्याण्ड र भियतनाममा पनि पाइन्छ। यसले ओसिलो र अलि छाया पर्ने ठाउँलाई बढी मन पराउँछ।

गन्धप्रसारिणीलाई यसको बाह्य स्वरूपबाट सजिलै चिन्न सकिन्छ:
लहरा र जरा: यसको लहरा लामो र लचिलो हुन्छ। पुरानो लहराको जरा करिब एक अङ्गुलसम्म मोटो हुन सक्छ।
पात: यसका पातहरू एकअर्काको विपरीत दिशामा (आमने-सामने) पलाएका हुन्छन्। पातहरू ३ देखि ५ अङ्गुल लामो र १ देखि २ अङ्गुल चौडा हुन्छन्, जसको टुप्पो तिखो वा चुच्चो परेको हुन्छ।
फूल र फल: यसको फूल जामुनको रङजस्तै हल्का गुलाबी वा प्याजी रङको हुन्छ। यसको फल चिल्लो हुन्छ र त्यसमा पाँचवटा रेखाहरू देखिन्छन्। फलभित्र एउटा मात्र बीउ हुन्छ।
गन्ध र रस: यसको पात मिच्दा "सल्फर" जस्तो कडा गन्ध आउँछ। स्वादमा यो 'तिक्त' (तितो) हुन्छ र यसको प्रकृति 'उष्ण' (तातो) मानिन्छ।
फाइदा
गन्धप्रसारिणी मुख्यतया 'कफ' र 'वात' दोषलाई सन्तुलनमा राख्न प्रयोग गरिन्छ। यसका केही प्रमुख फाइदाहरू यस प्रकार छन्:
१. बाथरोगमा लाभकारी: आमवात (Rheumatoid Arthritis), वातरक्त (Gout) र जोर्नी दुख्ने समस्यामा यो रामबाण मानिन्छ। यसले शरीरमा बढेको वायुलाई कम गर्छ।

स्वरस (रस): ताजा पातको रस १ देखि २ तोला (१०-२० मिलिलिटर) सम्म सेवन गर्न सकिन्छ।
चूर्ण (धुलो): सुकेको लहरा वा पातको धुलो ३ देखि ५ ग्राम दिनको २-३ पटक सेवन गर्न सकिन्छ।
अर्क: यसको अर्क १० देखि १५ ग्राम सम्म प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ।
नोट: कुनै पनि जडिबुटी सेवन गर्नुअघि आयुर्वेदिक चिकित्सक वा विशेषज्ञको सल्लाह लिनु अनिवार्य हुन्छ।
