अफिम बीजलाई खसखस दाना भनिन्छ । आयुर्वेदिक मत अनुसार यो शीतल, मल अवरोधक, कफनाशक, रुचिकारक, श्वास-प्रश्वासशामक, दर्द र शोथनाशक, चर्मरोगमा उपयोगी मानिन्छ। यसले पागलपन, अपस्मार, दिमागमा पानी भरिने, वीर्य शीघ्रपतन, पौष्टिकताको कमी इत्यादिमा अचुक उपचार गरी सन्चो बनाउँछ । यसको चट्नी - अचार र मिठाईका परिकारमा विशेष स्वादिलो बनाउन प्रयोग गरिन्छ । एकल मात्रा ३-५ ग्राम ३-५ पटक । यो अफिम बीज पुष्टकारी ?

    परिचय

    खसखस एक प्रकारको तिल जस्तै स-साना दाना हुने वनस्पतिको बीज हो। यसलाई वैज्ञानिक भाषामा Papaver somniferum भनिन्छ भने नेपाली र हिन्दीमा खसखस वा पोस्तदाना नामले चिनिन्छ। यो वास्तवमा अफिमको बोटबाट प्राप्त हुने बीज हो, तर यसमा नशालु पदार्थको मात्रा नगन्य हुने भएकाले यसलाई खाद्य पदार्थ र औषधिका रूपमा सुरक्षित मानिन्छ। आयुर्वेदमा यसलाई शीतल प्रकृतिको र पौष्टिकताले भरिपूर्ण जडिबुटीका रूपमा व्याख्या गरिएको छ।

    खसखसको खेती मुख्यतया मध्यम जलवायु भएका क्षेत्रहरूमा गरिन्छ।

    नेपालमा: नेपालको पहाडी तथा तल्लो हिमाली भेगका कतिपय स्थानमा यसको खेती पाइन्छ। यद्यपि, कानुनी प्रावधानका कारण यसको व्यावसायिक खेतीमा केही प्रतिबन्धहरू छन्, तर यो स्थानीय बजार र भान्साहरूमा सजिलै उपलब्ध हुन्छ।

    विश्वभर: विश्व स्तरमा हेर्दा टर्की, भारत, इरान, चीन र अस्ट्रेलिया खसखस उत्पादनका प्रमुख देशहरू हुन्। मध्य–पूर्वी र दक्षिण एसियाली देशहरूमा यसको प्रयोग मसला र औषधिको रूपमा धेरै हुने गर्दछ।

     

    भौतिक गुणहरू

    खसखसका दानाहरू आकारमा निकै साना र मिहिन हुन्छन्। यिनीहरूको भौतिक विशेषता यस प्रकार छ:

    रंग: यो मुख्यतया सेतो, खैरो वा नीलो–कालो रंगमा पाइन्छ। नेपाल र भारतमा सेतो खसखसको प्रयोग बढी हुन्छ।

    स्वाद: यसको स्वाद हल्का गुलियो र बदाम जस्तो ओइली (oily) हुन्छ।

    प्रकृति: आयुर्वेदिक मत अनुसार यो शीतल (Cooling) प्रकृतिको हुन्छ, जसले शरीरको गर्मीलाई शान्त पार्न मद्दत गर्दछ।

     

    फाइदा

    खसखस केवल स्वादका लागि मात्र होइन, स्वास्थ्यका दृष्टिले पनि निकै लाभदायक छ:

    अनिद्रा र मानसिक तनाव: यसमा पाइने तत्वले दिमागलाई शान्त राख्न र राम्रो निद्रा लगाउन मद्दत गर्दछ। यो पागलपन र अपस्मार (Epilepsy) जस्ता मानसिक रोगमा पनि उपयोगी मानिन्छ।

    पाचन र श्वास-प्रश्वास: यसले मल अवरोधकको काम गर्छ (पखाला लाग्दा उपयोगी) र कफनाशक हुने भएकाले श्वास-प्रश्वाससम्बन्धी समस्यामा राहत दिन्छ।

    यौन स्वास्थ्य: आयुर्वेदका अनुसार यसले वीर्य शीघ्रपतन रोक्न र यौन शक्ति बढाउन मद्दत गर्दछ। यसलाई 'पुष्टकारी' मानिन्छ।

    छाला र दुखाइ: चर्मरोग (Skin diseases) निको पार्न र शरीरको सुन्निएको भाग (Inflammation) कम गर्न यसको लेप प्रभावकारी हुन्छ।

    दिमागको स्वास्थ्य: यसले दिमागमा पानी भरिने समस्या कम गर्न र स्मरणशक्ति बढाउन सहयोग पुर्‍याउँछ।

     

    प्रयोग विधि

    खसखसलाई विभिन्न तरिकाले प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ:

    खाद्य परिकारमा: यसको चट्नी, अचार वा तरकारीको ग्रेभीलाई स्वादिलो र गाढा बनाउन प्रयोग गरिन्छ। मिठाईका परिकारहरूमा पनि यसको प्रयोग बढी हुन्छ।

    औषधिको रूपमा: * मात्रा: सामान्यतया एकल मात्रामा ३ देखि ५ ग्राम सम्म प्रयोग गर्न सकिन्छ।

    निद्राका लागि: सुत्नुअघि तातो दूधमा खसखसको पेस्ट मिसाएर पिउन सकिन्छ।

    दुखाइका लागि: खसखसलाई पानीमा पिसेर सुन्निएको वा दुखेको ठाउँमा लेप लगाउन सकिन्छ।

     

    खेती, उत्पादन र संरक्षण

    खसखसको बोट एक वर्ष बाँच्ने (Annual) बिरुवा हो। यसको खेतीका लागि दोमट माटो र ठिक्कको पानी आवश्यक पर्दछ।

    उत्पादन: यसको फूल फुलेपछि लाग्ने 'डोडा' (Capsule) भित्र दानाहरू तयार हुन्छन्। डोडा सुकेपछि त्यसलाई चिरेर दाना निकालिन्छ।

    संरक्षण: खसखसको दानामा तेलको मात्रा हुने भएकाले यसलाई ओसबाट बचाउनुपर्छ। यसलाई हावा नछिर्ने (Air-tight) भाँडोमा राख्नुपर्छ, अन्यथा यो चाँडै बिग्रन वा नमी आउन सक्छ।
